IWAT was very busy in October. Our members were so active! It was great to see you getting out and enjoying Taichung!
We were so happy to see so many new faces at our coffee morning and the luncheon. IWAT had a successful First Scavenger Hunt on October 18th. Six teams of members overcame all of the challenges and maneuvered all over Taichung’s downtown areas. Congratulations to the winning team – The Fabulous 4 (Toni, Judy, Melody, and Hillary). Thanks to Brandy and Jessie and the rest of the team who planned and organized behind the scene. It was a great experience for newcomers as well as those who have been living in Taichung for so long!
Check out our updated Facebook page, managed by Gemma. She has brought it to life! Check it out: “Iwat Taiwan” and/or our page “International Women’s Association of Taichung” and click on the “Like” Button to stay up to date!
The end of the month highlight for October is the Compass International Food Festival. Many thanks to all the people who will contribute foods and volunteer at the booth, especially our organizer Judy! This important event for IWAT will raise money to serve the community.
The weather is finally cooling down, the leaves are changing color, and the holidays are coming. IWAT has many more events before the Winter Break. Christmas party tickets are on sale now! Don't miss this opportunity to bring your family to share the holiday spirit with the IWAT family. In November, we are going to Piano and Forest Restaurant, the coolest venue for dining in Taichung, for our monthly luncheon!
We have more plans to come for our small groups too! So keep your eye on Facebook, the website, and Line for more events, activities, party, and news.
During this Thanksgiving season, lWAT would like to thank you all wonderful ladies who support our community and help each other. We feel proud of to have you ladies as our members, and we hope that IWAT also makes you proud, too! Let’s continue that loving-care for each other, and do great things to help our community know IWAT’s love.

A true story in which the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo saved hundreds of people from Nazi hands. After their zoo was bombed, Polish zookeepers Jan and Antonina Zabinski managed to save over three hundred people from the Nazis by hiding refugees in the empty animal cages. With animal names for these "guests," and human names for the animals, it's no wonder that the zoo's code name became "The House Under a Crazy Star." Best-selling naturalist and acclaimed storyteller Diane Ackerman combines extensive research and an exuberant writing style to re-create this fascinating, true-life story―sharing Antonina's life as "the zookeeper's wife," while examining the disturbing obsessions at the core of Nazism.
Taipei, February 28, 1947: As an uprising rocks Taiwan, a young doctor is taken from his newborn daughter by Chinese Nationalists, on charges of speaking out against the government. Although he eventually returns to his family, his arrival is marked by alienation from his loved ones and paranoia among his community. Years later, this troubled past follows his youngest daughter to America, where, as a mother and a wife, she too is forced to decide between what is right and what might save her family—the same choice she witnessed her father make many years before. A stunningly lyrical story of a family and a nation grappling with the nuances of complicity and survival, Green Island raises the question: how far would you go for the ones you love?
