President's Note

大家好嗎! Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the 33rd year of the International Women's Association of Taichung City!

If you are new to Taichung or our group, I hope that you will find IWAT a place to meet new friends, explore hobbies, and get involved in our community and Taichung City. I have had the blessing of being a part of this group for three years. I felt so moved by the loving-kindness I experienced at IWAT events that I wanted to help support and carry our community spirit onward during my stay in Taichung, aso I got involved! Not only have I made dear friends in IWAT, but I have also found a way to "root" and "grow" myself as a "trailing spouse" and "expat." Dear Ladies of IWAT-Thank you for giving every lady a place to "bloom".

This year is a monumental one in the history of our organization! We will be completing our application to become an official non-profit organization of the City of Taichung. So many members have helped along the way, but I would like to give a special shoutout to our new treasurer Jessica Wang, board member Jessie Liao, and devoted member Claire Liu. They have pushed and plowed ahead to give our organization the extra financial security and recognition that it deserves!

You will see that we have changed our newsletter to a blog form, so we can now post it directly to our website. Please have a look at what we have going on in September and November. Send me any feedback about improvements to the blog. If you would like to help write a few pieces, let me know!

London, November, 1960: the Cold War is at its height. Spy fever fills the newspapers, and the political establishment knows how and where to bury its secrets. When a highly sensitive file goes missing, Simon Callington is accused of passing information to the Soviets, and arrested. His wife, Lily, suspects that his imprisonment is part of a cover-up, and that more powerful men than Simon will do anything to prevent their own downfall. She knows that she too is in danger, and must fight to protect her children. But what she does not realise is that Simon has hidden vital truths about his past, and may be found guilty of another crime that carries with it an even greater penalty.
